  • Begin Project 1: Packaging re-design. Group research and presentations - 4 groups

Class B

  • Finish packaging research and presentations
  • Buy your packaged product over the weekend!

Week 2 -- 1/23/12

Class A

  • Show class your packaged product
  • Review die templates and books— choose a unique die template to re-package your product

Class B

  • Create a design for all sides of your packaging—create a full-size, printed mock up

Week 3 -- 1/30/12

Class A

  • Work on packaging re-design

Class B

  • Work on packaging re-design

Week 4 -- 2/6/12

Class A

  • In class critique of first, full-size, printed, packaging mock up
    • Get into Groups of 4–5 students each
    • Each member presents their before-and-after design to their group
    • Explain your Brand Message being communicated and define your Target Market
    • Discuss problems or concern you have with your group-get new ideas and solutions!
    • Each group member offers at least 1 area to improve and 1 area done well

Class B

  • Make changes to your packaging on your own

Week 5 -- 2/13/12

Class A

  • In class critique of second, full-size, printed, packaging mock up
    • Each student presents their before-and-after designs to the entire class
    • Explain your Brand Message being communicated and define your Target Market
    • As a class, we'll offer areas to improve and areas done well

Class B

  • Instructor will demonstrate how to print on heavy weight packaging stock (and set out stock)
  • Make changes to your packaing on your own
  • Make your final, full-size, printed, packaging mock up

Week 6 -- 2/20/12

Class A

  • Photograph your final packaging re-design (we will use the product photo booth in class)
  • Make a 3D digital mock up of your packaging re-design in Photoshop

Class B

  • DUE Project 1: Present final packaging re-design to class (full-size mock up, printed photograph, and 3D digital mock up)

Week 7 -- 2/27/12

Class A

  • Begin project 2: Web Site Re-design
  • Choose a real web site that needs to be redesigned—find a really poor design (screen capture it for the "before" stage)
  • Re-design the home page (Photoshop). Use the existing content/copy/photos from their site. You may change, improve and update content as you see fit—just make it better!
  • Again, use the thumbnail and brainstorming steps that work best for you

Class B

  • Work on home page re-design

Week 8 -- 3/5/12

Class A

  • Demo: Library items
  • Demo: CSS navigation
  • Demo: CSS inline media queries (deliver your web site to smart phones and tablets)
  • Work on home page re-design

Class B

  • Demo: Font-face rule
  • Demo: Favicon and iPhone icon
  • Work on home page re-design

Spring Break Week (3/12/12 - 3/16/12)

Week 9 -- 3/19/12

  • Work on home page re-design

  • Begin Project 3: Sales Presentation
  • In class group work: Research & Presentations
  • Choose your company and gather you sales information here
  • Design the title page and page one of your presentation pages (this should define the brand's "look")

Class B

  • Work on sales presentation

Week 13 -- 4/16/12

Class A

  • In class critique of title and first page
    • Each student presents their design to the entire class
    • Explain your Brand Message being communicated and define your Target Market
    • As a class, we'll offer areas to improve and areas done well

Week 16 -- 5/7/12

Class A

  • Discuss and demo topic 3: Drive Genius
  • Discuss and demo topic 4: Apple's Disk Utility
  • Instructor Evaluation

Class B

  • Hand back any remaining projects
  • Final Grades
