Week 1: 8/29/13 - 9/6/13

Week 2: 9/9/13 - 9/13/13

Class A

  • Demo: Photography
  • Begin work on your own packaging redesign.
  • Choose your dieline template and begin designing
  • Use the process that works for you -- however many thumbs and roughs you need - your choice.

Class B

  • Demo: Masking
  • Work on packaging redesign.

Week 3: 9/16/12 - 9/20/13

Class A

  • Demo: 3D Mockup
  • Work on packaging redesign.

Class B

  • Work on packaging redesign.

Week 4: 9/23/13 - 9/27/13

Class A

  • Present a full-size mockup of your packaging design to the class for critique.
    (Have at least the front and one side panel fully designed).
  • 10 minutes per student.

Class B

  • Work on packaging redesign.

Week 5: 9/30/13 - 10/4/13

Class A

  • Present a full-size mockup of your packaging design to the class for critique.
    (Have all six panels fully designed—the entire box).
  • 10 minutes per student.

Class B

  • Work on packaging redesign.

Week 6: 10/7/13 - 10/11/13

Class A

  • Work on packaging redesign.

Class B

  • DUE: Project 1 - Final packaging redesign.
    Present a full-size mockup of your packaging design to the class.
  • 10 minutes per student
  • Be sure to complete your grading sheet to share with class

Week 7: 10/14/13 - 10/18/13

Class A

  • Introduce Project 2: Brand Identity Book - (hand out possible ideas for 3 mktg pieces)
  • Set up brand identity book in InDesign (12 pages)
  • Test print book - duplexed from Print Booklet
  • Fold, saddle stitch, trim, and round the corners

Class B

  • Complete in Class: brand identity book, pg 1: Researching the Competition


Week 8: 10/21/13 - 10/25/13

Class A

  • Complete in brand identity book, pg 2: Brand & Target Market

Class B

  • Complete in Class - Groups: brand identity book, pg 3: Brainstorming
  • Begin in Class and Homework: brand identity book, pg 4: 16 Logo Concepts

Week 9: 10/28/13 - 11/1/13

Class A

  • Work on brand identity book, pg 4: Logo Concepts

Class B

  • Work on brand identity book, pg 4: Logo Concepts

Week 10: 11/4/13 - 11/8/13

Class A

  • Brand Identity book - Present 16 logo concepts to group for critique
    (10 minutes per student, assign a time-keeper)
  • Introduce brand identity book, Pgs 5–8 & Covers (hand out possible ideas for 3 mktg pieces)
  • Brand identity book - Work on page 7: Design 3 covers for a foldable marketing piece

Class B

Week 11: 11/11/13 - 11/15/13

Class A

  • Brand identity book - Present 2 marketing piece COVER ONLY concepts to class for critique
    - Present a PDF of your two cover designs, both on one page.
    (10 minutes per student, assign a time-keeper)
  • Introduce brand identity book, p9, 10 & Covers
  • Work on finishing brand identity book

Class B

  • Work on finishing brand identity book

Week 12: 11/18/13 - 11/22/13

Class A

  • Work on finishing brand identity book

Class B

  • Work on finishing brand identity book

Week 13: 11/25/13 - 11/27/13 (Thanksgiving - 28th &29th)

Class A

  • Work on finishing brand identity book

Week 14: 12/2/13 - 12/6/13

Class A

  • Demo how to save as a low-res PDF
  • Test print your book this week
  • Demo folding, saddle-stitching, cutting, corner-rounding as needed
  • Work on finishing brand identity book

Class B

  • Project 2 Final Brand Identity Book Due
    (Final 12-page Booklet, Foldable Mock-up, Low-res PDF, and grading sheet)
  • Present Brand identity book to class

Week 15: 12/9/13 - 12/13/13

Class A

  • Create an html email blast together in class
  • Project 3 - Finish Email Blast

Week 16: 12/16/13 - 12/18/13 Classes End

  • Final grades & course evaluation
