Directions
Illustrate the cover (and inside if you card has words on the inside) of a greeting card. You may choose your own theme and copy, or choose one of the following headlines: Smile! • You’re My Favorite Friend • Friends Forever • Smooooch! • Crazy about You! • A Great Big Hug for You! • Kisses for You • A Birthday Wish for You • Happy Birthday • Just Wanted to Brighten Your Day! Or, any other respectable and marketable headline you write yourself.
First, choose a theme to go with your headline. Then start sketching ideas. Don't limit yourself to basic ideas and concepts. This project will be graded on your ability to create a new, fresh, innovative, greeting card concept. Be original, and remember that quirky, funny, lively cards are what sell best!
- Elements: Choose a headline from above. Then choose 2—3 additional elements for your card. An element could be an animal, person, a garden, cake, or a pair of kissing fish.
- Medium: Your choice
- Surface: Appropriate for your medium
- Card size: 5" x 7" (1/4" bleed)
- Color: Full color—lively and have play value!
- Hours to complete: 15–20 (8 hrs in class, 12 hours homework over 3 weeks)
