Directions

Illustrate the cover of a travel/tourism poster for a city, country, or region of your choice using photo reference.

Examples of locations are: Texas, Alaska, Virginia, New York, New Orleans, Rio de Janeiro, China, Australia, India, Brazil, Peru, Europe, Southwestern United States, Bahama Islands, Ireland, Scotland, Japan, China, Moscow, Rome, etc.

The goal of any travel/tourism guide is to create enough interest and intrigue to influence a customer to buy plane tickets (or gas) and go there. The illustration must create interest in the area through the use of landmarks, architecture, popular activities, cultural events or practices, or beautiful scenery or landscapes. There has to be something worth doing or seeing in order to get the customers to visit.

  • Elements: You must include the name of the location in your illustration. It must be illustrated. Then, choose 2-3 additional elements to represent the location with your illustration. Do NOT include illustrator information (like your name).
  • Medium: Your choice
  • Surface: Appropriate for your medium
  • Size: 9” x 12”
  • Color: Full color
  • Hours to complete: 15–20 (8 hrs in class, 12 hours homework over 3 weeks)
